G1&2 Library Class

When children learn foreign languages, picture books can stimulate their learning motivation, help them learn vocabulary and grammar, and improve their listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities.

Every G1 & G2 class has an English library class once a week with the library teacher. The library teacher will lead students into the world of picture book reading.

Pre-reading：Before reading, the teacher gives some background introduction and/or information, which can help students better understand the story, and also enables them to learn some knowledge related to the story .Teacher will talk with students about picture book topic, author, illustrator, etc., and make predictions about picture book contents.

While-reading: Help students to understand the picture book’s information and train students' reading skills. The main task is to understand the general idea and to obtain specific or detailed information of the story through reading.

After reading the story, students take their cards and pick out books they want to borrow.

Students will sit at the tables reading books quietly. Through reading the original picture books, children can gradually build up their English language skills.

Finally the teacher calls students individually to come up and get their books and go back to sit on the carpet.

G3-6 Library class

G3-G6 students also go to the library once a week with their teacher to enjoy the library books. The school has invested millions of yuan in purchasing books, and now has more than 82,000 books in both Chinese and English today.

Students learn to enjoy reading books with different themes and styles appropriate with the children's age and psychological growth.

Reading different themed picture books can increase a child's knowledge, broaden their horizons and ultimately help them build a sound personality.

We learn English through Music

Every week Grade 1, 2 and 3 come to music class to sing songs in English. Each song has a lot of vocabulary. During the long process of learning a new song, we learn both the meaning of the song and also the meaning of many words too. So, we learn English through music. It is great fun.Every Music class as the students come in we sing a Welcome, Hello, Good Morning, Good afternoon “Hello, How are you?” songs.

Grade 1 students love to see the videos of the songs. The teacher can ask them by pointing at the screen what is this and that. The students especially enjoy playing with some of the instruments we have in our music room.

Grade 2 and 3 students are required to read the lyrics of the song together with the video. It is good for reading development.

Grade 3 students learn how to describe the song: what is the song about, is it sad or happy, is it fast or slow etc. The students have lots of conversations with the teacher about the songs. Clapping the Rhythm is essential in the class. It gives the students a sense of rhythm and also gets their full attention in the class. Every Month we sing a “Month Song”. At the end of the year, the students know all the months and also what happened during that month. Every Music class we also do an Action song. The students stand up and follow the song with the actions: dance, clap, jump, stomp, touch the body parts,  etc. We hope that  through music, students can learn English happily.

English Computers

When it comes to information technology it meshes with both technical and creative components. It is technical with specific instructions doing specific functions, and creative with utilizing such instructions in creating infinite innovative creations. This program helps in stimulating, cultivating and enhancing the students’ instinctive sense of creativity through language and Technology. In the G3 program, the students’ work on the fundamentals of proper keyboard placement skills and are engaged in different artistic, reading and listening activities.  In addition, they also learn to use software that is interactive with tools which allow them to customize different things according to their own style. In the G4 program, the students are given specific set of instructions on how to conduct research on the Internet with curated websites for their projects.

With just enough information they are then taught with editing tools to essentially create nothing into something by making both subject and environment in a free range like setting.   For the G5 Program, the students learn about advanced editing tools and with both inspirational ideas and imagination, they take command in creating their own world.

The quality is felt; new standards are set along with putting in the work with their enjoyment and attention to details. The result of all of this is what transforms an ordinary project into an extraordinary project. Such project then becomes a culmination of great ideas and technical skills. A creation both students and teacher can be proud of together.

The students also love to “Draw the songs”. When they know and love the song very much, they have a class where they sing and draw a song on a worksheet. After, they can take this worksheet home. Music class is a lot of fun, and the students learn English at the same time!

E-Learning & Creativity

When it comes to the world of computers it intertwines with both technical and creative elements. It is technical in the form of specific commands doing specific tasks, and creative in the form of people utilizing such commands in creating limitless technological possibilities. This program helps in uncovering, nurturing and enriching the students’ innate sense of creativity through English and Technology.

In the G3 program, the students’ work on the fundamental of proper keyboard placement and are engaged in different reading and listening activities. In addition, they also learn to use software with tools which allows them to create and customize different things according to their own style.

With the G4 program, the students learn how to carry out certain research on the Internet about their working project. With enough information they are then taught with adequate editing tools to essentially create nothing into something by making both subject and environment in a sandbox like setting.

During the G5 Program, the students learn about advanced editing tools and with both information and imagination dives head first into creating their own world. The passion is evident; expectations are high along with emphasis on attention to details.

The sum of all of this is what transforms a good project into an amazing project. Such project then becomes an achievement to be proud of for both students and teacher. The English Computer program teaches many computer skills as well as how to follow directions and use a computer in and English desktop environment.
